Overview of Egypt

  Egypt is one of the Four Great Ancient Civilizations in the world.

  It stretches over Asia and Africa and face to Europe with the Mediterranean between them. The national territorial area is 1,001,450KM2, 94% of which is desert. The length of coastline is about 2900km. The Nile passes through from south to north, with the total length of 6700km. And the section within Egypt is 1530km.

  The Capital of Egypt is Cairo, which is the political, economic and commercial center of Egypt. It is composed by Cairo Governorate, Giza Governorate and Gaiubia Governorate, which is generally called large Cairo. With the population of more than 20 million, it is the city with largest population in Arabic and African countries and one of the largest 10 cities in the world. Other main cities include Alexander , Port Said and Sharm el Sheikh.

  By the end of 2015, the domestic population of Egypt has exceeded 90 million. There were more than 10,000 Chinese people in Egypt, which mainly in Cairo, Alexander Port, Port Said and Ain Sokhna.

  According to the constitution, Egypt government is the highest executive and administrative organization in Egypt, which is composed by premier and ministers. Ministries responsible for economy include Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Investment, Ministry of Communication and Information, Ministry of International Cooperation, Ministry of Power and Energy, Ministry of Transportation and etc. The main nationality in Egypt is Eastern Hamite (Egyptian Arabian, Copt, Bedouin, Berber), accounting for 99% of the total population. And Nubian, Greek, Armenian, Italian descendant and French descendant account for 1%.

  The official language in Egypt is Arabic, which is regarded as mother language by most citizens; the Coptic language (evolved from Egyptian) is used in Coptic Christian Church in Egypt. In addition, English and French are generally used in large cities and tourism area.

  About 90% of the population in Egypt believes Sunnite of Islam. About 10% of the population in Egypt believes Coptic Orthodox, Coptic Catholicism, Greek Orthodox and etc. Coptic Orthodox is an independent denomination in Christianity of the East. Most of the Copts in Egypt are of this religious sect.

  Egypt adopts 5-day working system for each week. Friday and Saturday are public holidays.
